On the meeting of the delegation of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) at the ASEAN Secretariat
On October 17, during his visit to Indonesia, a member of the Board (Minister) for Integration and Macroeconomics of the EEC, Sergei Glazyev, held talks with the Deputy Secretary General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Aladdin Rillo. The discussion was focused on the issues of implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2018 and the deepening of the dialogue between the two organizations. The Minister noted the positive dynamics in cooperation with ASEAN, including through the adoption of a Program of Cooperation between the EEC and the ASEAN Secretariat for 2019–2020.
One of the first steps towards enhancing cooperation between Eurasian economic union and ASEAN will be a Seminar on the exchange of integration experiences, which will be held in Moscow on December 9–10 , 2019.
For his part, the ASEAN Deputy Secretary General also highly appreciated the established contacts with the EEC, noting that the parties took a good start by quickly developing and agreeing on a joint action plan.
«A direct dialogue with ASEAN is important for identifying promising areas of cooperation between the two regions, especially in the context of the high intensity of contacts between the EAEU and ASEAN Member States», – said Sergei Glazyev.
EEC Minister proposed to continue practice ASEAN- EAEU engagement on the sidelines of key EAEU forums, including the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), which included the EAEU-ASEAN business dialogues for the past two years.
The Minister invited the ASEAN Secretariat to join the first International Eurasian Economic Forum, which will be held in Minsk in 2020 in conjunction with one of the meetings of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.
Sergey Glazyev also noted the importance of connecting the ASEAN to the process of forming the Greater Eurasian Partnership.
